Cricket Champs Chennai Super Kings take IPL 2010 title

(Blow a big whistle for Chennai Super Kings!!)

Well, well, well Thamarites… the boys in yellow have finally done it. They were the finalists in the first IPL. Semi finalists in the second one and champions this year. My prediction came true for once, and I am regretting not buying the lottery that day.

I couldn’t see the match myself, because I was playing a match of my own with my team – Leewise Cricket Club. We lost the match if anyone is interested, but it was a good fight till the end. Very proud of my boys.

Now let’s talk about the finals.
There have been speculations about match fixing and for those sceptics I would like to say this: “Shut Up!!! Stop complaining Mumbai Indians lost, Chennai Super kings won! Learn to live with it!!!
You have to give Sachin Tendulkar props; he, along with his Mumbai boys gave us great entertainment throughout this tournament. And let’s not forget the fact that the “Little Master” Tendulkar still led his team despite having five stitches in his hand! They were worthy opponents, but unfortunately there could only be one winner.

Now let’s get to the champions – Mr Cool in the presentation ceremony was calm as ever and I for one would like to know how he manages to do that? I would be like a kid in a candy store jumping up and down, had I won. But you could see the real emotion in his eyes when he thanked his team and support staff. He also mentioned the fact that how close they were (the team) and next year, when a fresh new auction for players starts he will miss some of the guys in his team. I wish the Kings IX Punjab would take a leaf out of Mr Dhoni’s book.

The players were at their peak; notably one extremely talented Suresh Raina who was at his best, getting runs and taking a brilliant catch to get rid of Manoj Tiwary, and taking the wicket of Harbajan Singh. Watch out for him Thamarites, I have a feeling this young man is destined for greatness. The other star was Murali Vijay who showed us why he could be the next Virender Sehwag with his destructive batting. With the score on 168 for 5 everyone watching would have been poised for a brilliant showdown Clint Eastwood style. I bet somewhere in Hollywood he would have looked at Sachin on the television and gone “Are you feeling lucky, punk?”

And to be absolutely honest Sachin would have, considering his good form with the bat throughout the tournament, and obviously with the support of the young guns in the Mumbai Indians dressing room. Not to mention the 6 foot something powerhouse Kieron Pollard and the ever reliable JP Duminy. Alas lady luck or that little person dressed as a leprechaun was not by the Mumbai Indians but the Chennai Super Kings. The spin trio of CSK Muralithararan, Jakati, and Raina took 4 wickets between them and the ever popular Doug Bollinger chipped in with a wicket as well. All in all a professional performance by the CSKs.

Well done boys, you have bought glory to the state of Tamil Nadu, and no doubt the Tamils who supported you around the world would be writing poetry about how you stopped the Mumbai Juggernaut in its tracks for years to come. Hopefully you will carry on this form and do well next year too, and when you get there, I hope Kings IX Punjab will be on the opposite side.

Personally a big hearty whistle from me to you, CSK, for giving me the opportunity to make fun of my Mumbai Indian supporting boss, who looked like he’d eaten sour grapes (I maybe out of a job now).
