British Tamil teenager Nirvan Ramesh makes first-class cricket debut

Talented British Tamil teenager Nirvan Ramesh, made his debut in first-class cricket last week, for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club against Glamorgan CCC.

The 17 year old spinner of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage took his first wicket with his seventh ball, claiming the prime wicket of international South African star Colin Ingram.

Raised in London & educated at Westminster School, Ramesh made history as the third youngest player to debut for the team since 1945.

Ramesh joined Northants Academy in the summer (2025), signing a rookie contract in July. Within four months he has made the jump into first-class with the support and backing of his coaches.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Ramesh said:

“It was a great day, to be honest, the second I got to bowl was brilliant.

“I’ve wanted to do that for a long time. It’s probably not gone as well as the boys wanted it to do, but we still fought on a tough day out there.”

“The wicket was a great moment for all the work I’ve put in, all the work these guys have put in, just to do it for me, my family and my coaches was a privilege.”

“It’s an honour to represent this county, and an honour to be playing for the same club as some of the greats like Anil Kumble.

“This club has had some great spinners, so hopefully I can keep plugging away and get close to them.”

We look forward to following Nirvan Ramesh’s cricketing journey.
