4 out of the top 20 British female chess players are from the Tamil community

British Tamil chess player Bodhana Sivanandan becomes Britain’s No. 1 Female Player. The 11-year-old primary school student from Harrow in west London tops the World chess rankings for British female players, compiled by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and updated each month.

In the April list, Sivanandan replaced four-time British Women’s Champion Lan Yao, aged 25, as the English federation’s top player.

What’s also incredible news for the British Tamil community – there are 4 Tamil players within the top 20 British female players! Bodhana ranks no.1, Akshaya Kalaiyalahan ranks no.10, Anusha Subramaniam in at 14 and Shambavi Hariharan at no.15.

9-year-old Tara Tamilselvan, a primary school student from Leicester, who gained national attention recently following her remarkable performance in one of Britain’s most competitive fast-paced chess tournaments, ranked in at no.46!
