Fundraiser at Copper Ceylon raises £15,000 for charities in Sri Lanka

Copper Ceylon, an opulent restaurant and cocktail bar in Bromley, founded by British Tamil couple Haran & Dion Thuriarajah, hosted a fundraiser for three charities working against the odds in Sri Lanka.

Haran who travels to Sri Lanka frequently for various charity projects, contacted friends to support. “I am currently in Srilanka and have spoken to school principles and doctors. The cost of living has tripled and many children are attending school without food. It’s a serious problem and we need your support. Thank you”

Within a short time frame, Haran mobilised support from Dr Muki Sritharan (GP Partner Farnham Road Medical Group), Dr Asanga Fernando (Consultant Cancer liaison psychiatrist & Clinical Director – simulation & clinical skills St. George’s university hospitals NHSFT) and Deepa Murali (Senior Relationship Manager at HSBC Bank UK).

Together, they raised £15,000 at the glitzy Casino Royale themed event, held at Copper Ceylon on Sunday 13th November 2022.

Putting their best foot forward, Copper Ceylon generously provided, their venue, staffing, entertainment, welcome drinks and a delicious meal for 80 diners, all on the house. A truly amazing gesture considering it’s a tough time for the UK hospitality industry.

The funds raised will be shared among the registered charities:

1. UK Srilankan Trauma group
Helping Improve Mental Health & Wellbeing in Sri Lanka and UK through Training and Capacity Building. Addressing the ever increasing sucide rate in Sri Lanka, the second highest rate in the world, the charity will provide a hotline with trained staff.
