Those of you who have been following the Sri Lankan edition of Voice teens (a franchise of the international television format) would be familiar with the energetic and powerful Sri Lankan Tamil vocalist Madhuvy Vaithialingam, a popular finalist from the show. Her performances in Tamil, Sinhala and English made Madhuvy a favourite across the island.
We are delighted to hear that Madhuvy is featured on the upcoming Tamil independent song Hiyo, a remake of ‘Ayyo Pathikichu’ a popular AR Rahman song, by kollywood actor and British Tamil independent artist Teejay Melody.
Speaking to Thamarai, Teejay said “I was sent Madhuvy’s vocals and instantly I knew she would be a great fit to the song. Whilst recorded she brought a cheeky persona and tone, similar to Vasundara Das, which was essential”.
Teejay teamed up with Canadian beat maker Yanchan Produced and introduces another new female vocalist – Mayee, who Teejay will mentor. Teejay added “Mayee has sung the chorus in English, and with Yanchan’s skill to transform a classic, her vocals have added a much needed western touch to the song”.
This is Teejay’s debut into directing and producing a music video. Due to the pandemic, the solo artist used zoom to facilitate the recording of the song and the music video shoot with his international partners. This including Chennai based choreographer and reality television judge Sridhar Master.
Teejay spends time between London and Chennai, creating independent Tamil music and his acting career. He recently starred in the South Indian film #Asuran (2019) alongside @dhanushkraja. Asuran went on to win the National Award for best film in 2021. His independent Tamil songs include Aasai, Thean Kudika and Muttu Muttu, which have amassed tens of millions of views across Youtube.
