June 18th 2010
This is a special date that all Tamil Cine lovers must keep note in their diary.
It is the much touted release date of Mani Ratnam’s big budget film Raavan starring Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Prithviraj, Priyamani and veteran actors Karthik and Prabhu. The Hindi version has Abhishek Bachchan replacing Vikram’s role whilst Vikram replaces Prithviraj’s role. Vikram thus plays the hero in Tamil and the villain in Hindi and is cast with Aishwarya in both films.
Post production of the film will be complete very soon, as Mani Ratnam plans to premiere the film at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
The film will release in Tamil and Hindi of course,
and will also be released in Telugu – Vikram will dub that himself. No reports are confirmed in whether Vikram will be dubbing for himself in Hindi.
The highly anticipated music is by AR Rahman, his collaborations with Mani Ratnam, from Roja, Bombay and Uyire to Alaipayudhe and Guru are renowned.
All I can say is look out for this modern day Ramayana story coming to a screen near you, wherever you are in the world, as Big Pictures (Anil Ambani’s group) are distributing it!
Jai becomes Assistant Director
After a successful outing with Goa, director Venkat Prabhu has started on his next venture Poochandi, starring Shiva (Chennai-28, Thamizh Padam) and younger brother Premji Amaran. It will have actor Jai as his assistant director.
The actor has already acted under Venkat’s direction in Chennai-28 and the recent Goa. It seems the actor has borne a dream of becoming a director and in order to become one, he has decided to join his best friend Venkat during the shooting of “Poochandi.”
As well as Goa, Jai has been receiving positive reviews with his last film Aval Peyar Thamizharasi and is now waiting for his forthcoming films Arjunan Kadhali and Kanimozhi to hit the screens. He believes both these films will do wonders for his career.
Shaam becomes a dad…again!
The handsome actor has become a father to another beautiful baby girl. She was born in a private hospital in Bengaluru and it is heard that both mother and daughter are in good health. The proud parents already have a daughter called Samaira.
It’s not only in his personal life but his professional life is also looking positive indeed. The actor has three films waiting to be released. One will be Thillalalangadi with Jayam Ravi, Agam Puram which is home production and Dhoosi.
Parthiban directs Surya
Parthiban (Azhagi, Aayirathil Oruvan) is an actor who expresses his thoughts in a creative way at many events.
Parthiban is not new to direction and of course he has acted in his own films, many of which were hits. Now he has a script in mind which he feels someone other than himself would be apt for and that is none other than the hunky actor Surya.
Parthiban is said to have shown the script to Surya and he has, in turn, shown an interest in working with the director. In fact, both of them were to work together after Mounam Pesiyathey, but due to unforeseen circumstances, things did not work out. Now that is likely to change.
I guess we will be expecting a clean family entertainer from the duo.
