Raavan in South Korea
The talented team that brought us “Raavan” (Raavanan in Tamil), after winning the Jaeger Le Coutre award, had another honour bestowed upon them, as the film was screened on October 8th at the 15th Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea. The Pusan Festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals in Asia, and it draws in huge crowds of all ages. Both the Hindi and Tamil versions were screened, and the festival was attended by Mani Ratnam, his wife Suhasini, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan amongst others.
Happy Birthday Big B!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan flew back from South Korea to join the legendary Amitabh Bachchan in his 68th birthday celebrations. Whilst Big B said he did not intend to do anything big, he was thrown a party by Sony TV, where he was presented a 68 kilogram cake by his fans! A documentary about his life, and the decades he’s spent in the film industry was also aired. The very talented actor remains as one of the most revered icons in Bollywood, and recently won the National Award for his role in Paa. We at Thamarai wish Amitabh-ji a very happy birthday!
Sir Michael Caine’s hit film to be remade!
The director duo Abbas-Mustan are planning to make a remake of the hit film “The Italian Job”. The remake will draw inspiration from both the 1969 version and the 2003 version, and is to be called “Players” in Hindi. Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Omi Vaidhya will take on the male leads, while the heroines are said to be Sonam Kapoor and Bipasha Basu. Though Abbas- Mustan have bought the rights to the film, and thus are entitled to make a scene-by-scene remake, they say that they have adapted the screenplay to make it more Indianised, and more up-to-date. Filming is due to start in the first week of November this year.
Anil Kapoor alongside Tom Cruise
Anil Kapoor (who starred in Slumdog Millionaire), has confirmed rumours that he will be acting in Mission : Impossible 4, which also stars Hollywood icon Tom Cruise, who will be reprising his role as IMF agent Tom Hunt. Though Kapoor has a career in Bollywood spanning over two decades, this will be his first major Hollywood appearance. The film is directed by Brad Bird (creator of Disney-Pixar film “The Incredibles), will be produced by J. J. Abrams, the creator of hit TV series “Lost”, and is slated for a late 2011 release.
Who is India’s Most Powerful Entertainer?
US-based magazine “Entertainment Weekly” released their edition of 50 Most Powerful Entertainers, in which they also included a list of “Stars around the World”, and who should feature in it but our beloved Shah Rukh Khan! Listed as being “A megastar of Bollywood [who] has headlined a parade of hits while winning 14 Filmfare Awards”, SRK is featured as India’s entry in a list that investigates “Who’s the Angelina Jolie of Nigeria?
