Conor Maynard, 19-year-old Brighton boy, became famous though YouTube and recently his 2nd single ‘Vegas girl’ was released. Now is it us or does it sound like it’s sampling A R Rahman’s track ‘Urvasi Urvasi’ from the 1994 hit Tamil movie ‘Kadhalan’ starring the "MJ of India" – Prabhu Deva.
You can hear it clearly at 1:30. Check it out and let us know what you think. ‘Vegas Girl’ is definitely a hit for summer.
It won’t have been the first time A R Rahman’s Indian music has been sampled or used in the West. The theme song from ‘Bombay’ was used in the Hollywood film ‘Lord of War’ starring Nicholas Cage. On top of that ‘Chayya Chayya’ was used in ‘Inside Man’ starring Denzel Washington, along with ‘Yaaro yaarodi’ from the Tamil film ‘Alaipayuthe’ and ‘Swasame’ from the film ‘Thenali’ both used in the Uma Thurman and Colin Firth film ‘Accidental Husband.’
Aside from being busy with his Indian film music and solo music production, A R Rahman has been spending some time creating soundtracks for Hollywood movies, the latest being Alex Curtman’s ‘People like us’. https://thamarai.com/news-details.php?id=587
