M.I.A’s “Bad Girls” has been nominated for a Grammy under the Best Short Form Music Video category. The news was announced via her Facebook profile today.
The British Tamil rapper released the video worldwide in late January 2012 and since then has received over 40 million views on various platforms. “Bad Girls” was produced by Danja (Timbaland, Diddy, Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Pink) and the video was directed by Romain Gavras (M.I.A.‘s “Born Free” and JUSTICE’s “Stress”).
Maya Arulpragasam aka M.I.A. is currently working on her fourth studio album under Interscope records. She was named one of the ten defining artists of the 2000’s decade by Rolling Stone and one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine. Earlier this year it was announced that she will be managed by Jay Z’s Roc Nation.
She is no stranger to the Grammys. In 2009 a heavily pregnant MIA performed at the Grammys on her baby’s due date. She performed with TI, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne on Swagga Like Us, which samples her hit Paper Planes which was nominated in the category for Record of the Year (2009).
