Sangarsh is an annual community service project organised by the Rotaract Club of the College of Engineering of Anna University in Chennai. Since it’s launch in 2003, Sangarsh has raised over INR50 lakhs (over £600,000) for needy sections of society.
Run by student volunteers from the College of Engineering, Sangarsh is holding it’s annual event later this month. This year’s event is raising money for the Thalassaemia Welfare Association, to fund the blood transfusions of children affected by the genetic blood disorder, thalassaemia. In Asia alone, the number of affected people has risen, with around 150 million people carrying the trait for the disorder.
Sangarsh 2013 takes place on April 20th at 5pm, at The Music Academy in Chennai. The event features an exciting line-up of musicians including Shaktisree Gopalan who sang the well-loved "Nenjukkule" song from Mani Ratnam’s latest film "Kadal". Other performers on the night include Singaporean musician Lady Kash, Airtel Super Singer 2006 winner Nikhil Mathew and playback singer Ramya NSK who has lent her vocals to tracks such as "Saayndhu Saayndhu" from "Neethane En Ponvasantham" and "Unnakenna Naan" from "Kadhalil Vizhunden".
