Come, let’s eat, is a gigantic four storey high mural in Ukkadam, Tamil Nadu, painted in 9 days by Singaporean artist Yip Yew Chong.
Immersing in the local community and culture, the street mural artist took inspiration from the culinary delights of the region – a banana leaf laden with Vadai, Thosai, Uthapam, idli, podi and chutneys, with street food vendors preparing filter coffee and Thosai.
Ukkadam, located in the city of Coimbatore, is known amongst the international art community for the vibrant murals in its art district (in the TNSCB Colony). The open-air art gallery showcases the talent of local and international artists, who take inspiration from Coimbatore’s natural beauty, urban communities, and more.
Yip Yew Chong’s project in Tamil Nadu was managed by St+art, a community organisation contributing to urban regeneration and community living through contemporary urban art projects. He was assisted by local artists.
