This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the end of the war in Ilankai. Across the world, in May, The Tamil community will conduct remembrance services in order to honour the dead and keep the memory of atrocity alive. It will be an important time for collective mourning, reflection and education.

The Tamil Information Centre is holding a two-day free exhibition on the 18th & 19th May in London titled ‘Tamils of Lanka: A Timeless Heritage’ / இலங்கைத் தமிழர்கள்: காலவரையற்றதொரு பாரம்பரியம்

The exhibition’s aim is to showcase Tamil history, culture and heritage alongside the impact of the conflict through time and war. The Tamil Information Centre has chosen to focus on the resilience and vitality of the community despite the exceptionally difficult circumstances.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
* Artwork, photographs, documentaries, literature, testimonies and artefacts curated by artists, researchers, academics and activists from all over the world. The exhibition will focus on the following themes, history of Ilankai Tamils up until the present day, political resistance, consequences of the war, home and culture and ‘Mullivaikkal’; a room looking at the final stages of the war.

*Creative workshops for children focusing on the concept of home, Tamil identity, memories of being in Ilankai etc.

*Talks by speakers

*Traditional Tamil theatre in the evening (ticketed event) including the following:
– Villu Paatu / வில்லுப்பாட்டு
– Kaaththavaraayan koothu / காத்தவராயன் கூத்து
– Sangiliyan play / சங்கிலியன் நாடகம்
– Karakaattam / கரகாட்டம்
Please note that the same performances will take place on both days.
