Vidya Balan – From Sex Symbol to Soulful Singer?

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is to star in another biopic, and rumour has it that it is based on the late MS Subbulakshmi, an adored and revered Carnatic singer. The last biopic she starred in was "The Dirty Picture", based on the life of sex symbol Silk Smitha. It will definitely be interesting to see how Vidya Balan depicts MS Subbulakshmi, then, as the singer was renowned for her devotion to both her religion and her art form.

M.S. became the first musician to ever receive the Bharat Ratna, the highest Indian civilian honour, and performed at venues all over the world including London’s Royal Albert Hall and at the Carnegie Hall in New York at the UN General Assembly in 1966. She also starred in a handful of films during her career, and she gained national (and international) recognition with her role in the 1945 film "Meera", which was directed by American director Ellis R. Dungan.

The biopic is to be directed by Rajiv Menon, the man behind "Minsara Kanavu" and "Kandukondain Kandukondain". Vidya Balan – who is of South Indian origin – has yet to shed any light on this, but did confirm a few days ago that she was involved in a biopic of some sort .
