More trouble for Vishwaroopam

It looks like the release of Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan‘s hugely-anticipated film "Vishwaroopam" may be delayed…again!

It seems that some Islamic groups are concerned that the portrayal of Muslims in the film may instigate hostility toward their community. The groups involved had demanded an advanced screening of the film as they were worried about how Muslims had been depicted in the film.

According to reports, the internal affairs ministry initially disregarded requests to ban the film. However, members of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) began to protest, demanding that the film be banned as well as for Kamal Haasan to be arrested. In a tabloid interview, a key member of the  (TMMK) claimed that the film will "affect social harmony in the state".

The film already faced trouble earlier, as Kamal Haasan wished for a direct-to-home (DTH) release. He faced a huge amount of opposition from cinema-owners, and finally agreed to do the DTH release a week after the film hit the big screens on January 25th.

It has just been reported that the Tami Nadu government have ordered a 15-day ban on "Vishwaroopam", due to a "law and order situation". There has been no official word from Kamal Haasan or the Vishwaroopam team as of yet.
