Who is Arun Rajkumar? The British Tamil was pictured on the podium after Mercedes win at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Arun Rajkumar gained viral fame after lifting the Constructors’ trophy for the Mercedes Team.

Born into a Sri Lankan Tamil family, Arun is a trackside power unit engineer for Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, and has become an important part of the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 setup.
The Constructors’ Trophy in Formula 1 is the premier annual award presented to the racing team, recognising their technical excellence, mechanics, and engineers who design and build the cars, rather than just the talent of the drivers.

Whilst the individual Drivers’ Championship gets more media attention, the Constructors’ Championship is actually the most important prize for the teams. It dictates the distribution of the sport’s lucrative prize money, which is vital for funding future car development. Winning the Constructors’ Championship also dictates advantageous pit lane allocations and garage positions for the following season.
Arun graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Birmingham. Between his 3rd and 4th placement years, he joined as a Mechanical Engineer placement student at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP).

Rajkumar plays a a key role in monitoring and optimising the performance and reliability of the team’s power units during race weekends.
