M.I.A & Chris Brown?

M.I.A aka Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam the highly controversial and talented artiste is back in the news again but this time it’s politics free, or is it! Chris Brown and producer Polow Da Don were in the studio with our Tamil superstar.

Chris Brown tweeted his excitement. “Was in the studio with the incredible M.I.A and Polow!! Amazing artist! ReAl talent.”

“IN THE LAB WIT THE GREAT @chrisbrown AND THE INCREDIBLE @_M_I_A_ THANK YOU DEAR LORD! I’ve WAITED ON THIS MOMENT MY WHOLE CAREER!!!! ITS HAPPENING!!!! MAGIC is UPON US!!!! LEH GO!!!!” tweeted Polow.

This is not the first major collaboration for M.I.A. It seems everyone wants to be working with this eclectic singer/rapper from Christina Aguilera to Jay Z. Jay Z loves M.I.A so much he featured on Boyz (2007), XXX0 (2010) and ”Swagger like us” which is based on a mixed sample of M.I.A. singing "no one on the corner has swagga like us", from her hit single "Paper Planes".

Both Chris Brown and M.I.A have been in the news for non-music related topics. Chris Brown was charged with physically abusing his former girlfriend Rihanna. There were concerns whether his music career would survive the incident and subsequent criminal conviction. It seems his remorse and dedication to the scene has kept his fan base strong.

M.I.A is an activist for Sri Lanka’s Tamil community which faces genocide at the hands of the Sri Lankan government. Her stand against the atrocities has meant she has been labelled a terrorist by the Sri Lankan government for voicing her concerns for her community in the international arena. Britain’s Channel 4 news reported recently ”A leaked United Nations report estimates that tens of thousands of civilians were killed during the fighting between Sri Lankan forces and the LTTE – known as the Tamil Tigers in 2009. The document cites "credible allegations" that government forces deliberately shelled civilians and repeatedly targeted hospitals. If proven, the allegations amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

Getting back to the main topic, we look forward to the highly anticipated track!
