Friday 18th December 2009 was a very special day for Thamarai.com, as within a few short weeks of launching the site, we were lucky to be involved in the first ever audio launch to take place outside of India for a Tamil movie.
Directed by Gautham Menon, with music by AR Rahman and starring Simbu and Trisha in the lead roles, the movie was titled ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ (meaning “Will you cross the skies for me?”), and it went on to do amazingly well at the box office. Thamarai.com hosted a special invite-only function for VIPs, in London’s BAFTA. Performing an unplugged version of the songs were the original singers and musicians, including Benny Dayal, Karthik, Naresh Iyer, Devan, Chinmayi, Blaaze, Alphonse & Stephen. The front-row was star-studded, with the likes of Trisha and Simbu, as well as music director AR Rahman and movie director Gautham Menon. The event was compered by London personality & journalist Ashanti OMkar, and guests were left amazed by the sheer quality of the live performances. The question on everyone’s lips was: ”Will there be a recording of the songs performed today?”
We are happy to announce that the team behind VTV have launched the ‘A.R. Rahman Collectors’ Edition Pack’. The special package includes the DVD of the BAFTA VTV Audio launch in London, a couple of additional soundtracks by A.R. Rahman and a special edition A.R. Rahman T-shirt. On Saturday 13th November, Gautham Menon & the singers of VTV hosted a launch for the special edition at the Odyssey Store in Chennai, India.
We at Thamarai hope the special edition is a success, and the DVD brings out the amazing talents of the singers & musicians who performed on that memorable day in London. Photos by Srikrish Photography for Thamarai.com.
