Throwback Thursday #19 – Mother’s Day Special

With Mother’s Day just around the corner (in the UK, it’s on March 10th this year), I thought I would look into Tamil film songs that highlighted Motherly love and choose one track that I felt would fit the bill to this week’s Throwback Thursday.

Whenever you think of a Tamil song that is related to the word Mother (as known in Tamil, Amma) the first song that comes to mind is Super Star Rajanikanth’s hit film "Mannan" that had the song "Amma Endrazhaikkaatha" sung by K.J.Yesudas and composed by Maestro Ilayarajah. The song portrays the struggle the mother went through to bring up her son and how he looks after now.

Other hit songs are "Kalayil Thinamum" from the film "New" sung by Unni Krishnan and Sadhana Sargam and composed by Music Wizard A. R. Rahman and another S. J. Suryah film "Vyabari" which had the song "Aasai Patta" which was sung by Hariharan and composed by Deva.

The song I have chosen for today is one that was a major hit in terms of the music as well as the film. The song I have chosen is "Neeye Neeye" sung by KK and composed by Srikanth Deva from the film "M. Kumaran, Son of Mahalakshmi."

The film starred Jayam Ravi being it his second film and Asin as her debut film. Nadhiya and Prakash Raj played crucial roles in the film too.

If you had to dedicate a song to your Mother, which one would it be?
