On February 25th, Kollywood celebrated Gautham Vasudev Menon’s 40th Birthday. The South Indian director made his debut in 2001 with the romantic Tamil flick "Minnale" which was a huge success in terms of the storyline. The music was also well-received, and "Minnale" marked debut of music director Harris Jayaraj.
Gautham’s films have all been hits in Tamil and Telugu. His biggest hit films are "Minnale", "Khaaka Khaaka" and its Telugu version "Gharshana", "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu", "Vaaranam Aaiyram", and "Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya" and its Telugu version "Ye Maaya Chesave."
He is yet to taste success in Bollywood, as his previous films -remakes of Minnale and VTV – did not fare as well up North. But, there’s no stopping the director, and he is currently directing a Hindi flick titled "Assi Nabbe Poorey Sau" which is infact the remake of his own hit Tamil film "Neethane En Ponvasantham".
As our Throwback Thursday, I’ve decided to choose the popular track from the director’s debut film "Minnale". The upbeat number is called "Hey Azhagiya Theeye" and has been sung by the young Harish Raghavendra, with music composed by Harris Jayaraj.
