Oscar Nomination for Bombay Jayashri’s Lullaby

The Oscar nominations have been announced and a Tamil song is in the running. Pi’s Lullaby from the film "Life of Pi" has been nominated for an academy award. The song has been sung by esteemed Carnatic (South Indian Classical) singer Bombay Jayashri & music by Mychael Danna. Bombay Jayashri has also penned the lyrics.

"Life of Pi" is an adaptation of Yann Martel’s novel of the same title, and has been directed by Ang Lee, who brought us Hollywood blockbusters such as ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’.    

She is up against some stiff competition in the music (original) category. They include;

Before My Time – Chasing Ice, Music and Lyric by J. Ralph

Suddenly – Les Miserable, Music by Claude-Michel Schönberg; Lyric by Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublils

Everybody Needs a Best Friend – Ted, Music by Walter Murphy; Lyric by Seth MacFarlane
