Carnatic (South Indian classical) music, despite its richness and depth, can be sometimes dismissed as being outdated, so we love it when we come across musicians who use their initiative to adapt a Carnatic piece to make it sound more contemporary.
The talented Karthick Iyer – who is primarily a violinist, but is also a singer and composer – has adapted the famous Thyagaraja Krithi "Brovabarama" in the Ragam Bahudari, and the song is in praise of the Hindu deity, Lord Vishnu.
We really like this soothing adaptation of the song, with Karthick’s violin and vocals over mellow percussion and piano accompaniment. Check it out below.
