Malaysian Tamil Eason Rajah appointed High Court Judge in England

Eason Rajah has been appointed a High Court Judge in England. His appointment was approved by the King and will take effect from 18th April 2023.

Born in Ipoh, Malaysia, the 56 year old Eason Rajah KC will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Rajah. The Lord Chief Justice will assign Eason Rajah KC to the Chancery Division.

This appointment will fill a vacancy in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements.

Eason Rajah attended school in Malaysia and England before going on to study law at the University of Nottingham.

He was called to the Bar in 1989 and held a general chancery practice, specialising in later years in international trust and estate litigation.

He was appointed as King’s Counsel in 2011, and as a Recorder (crime) in 2016 (South Eastern circuit).  He was approved for s9(1) authorisation to sit as a High Court Judge of the Chancery Division in 2020.

He was chair of the Chancery Bar Association from 2018 to 2020 and is a bencher of Gray’s Inn.
