The Gaana Raja’s posted this earlier on their facebook page: “Check out the Got to Dance – Sky 1 uncut show tonight at 6pm on Sky 1 and HD. You might see some familiar faces!! ;)”

If the name sounds familiar to Thamarai readers, it should do. The Gaana Kings as they were originally known made their debut appearance at our website launch party, “Southern Hospitality” back in September 2012. Their performance was one of the highlight acts from the event. From the unique South Indian inspired attire to the high adrenaline routine, their presentation was on point and had the audiences wanting more.

Made up of some of the most talented dancers on the UK university show scene, the Gaana Raja’s dancers are versed in all styles of dance from Street to Bollywood, but their passion lies in Gaana, with a clear mission to bring Gaana to the forefront of the dance scene.

So what is Gaana? A dance form from the South of India, popular amongst the Tamil community and promoted through Tamil cinema popularly known as Kollywood. The form has also spread from the South to North India with Bollywood now incorporating the style into their music & movies.

From everyone on the Thamarai team, we wish the Gaana Rajas the very best and we hope they get the 3 stars they need to go through to the next stage of the competition!
