SHOBANA is the youngest classical dancer and actress to have received the Padma Shri award for her contributions to both Cinema and Bharatanatyam, Shobana is undoubtedly India’s pride. A two-time National Award winner for Best Actress in 1993 and 2002, she has over 200 films to her credit.

As India’s ambassador for Bharatanatyam, she has taken the art form to the world, presenting it in the most aesthetic manner whilst making it appealing for all generations and nationalities.

She emerged as an independent performer and choreographer in her twenties and over the last three decades, her innovative dance-theatre productions like Maya Ravan and Krishna have played to packed houses around the globe.

Her choreography in films like Mani Ratnam’s Ravan, Pamela Rook’s Dance Like a Man and the all-time Faazil super hit Manichitrathazhu are still touted as one of the finest in film choreographies.

Shobana s dance and fusion collaborations with Ghatam Maestro Vikku Vinayak Ram, Sonal Mansingh and Padma Subramanyam to name a few are a class apart.
