In commemoration of Singapore’s 50 years of independence, the Tamil Digital Heritage Collection was launched on August 22, 2015. The unprecedented ground-up initiative successfully digitized 350 Tamil literary works of Singapore, including novels to poems and short stories that were published from 1965 to 2015. Arun Mahizhnan is the Chief Coordinator of the Tamil Digital Heritage Group. He is a Special Research Advisor at the Institute of Policy Studies, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. Prior to joining the Institute, Mr. Mahizhnan worked in the public and private sectors for over 20 years.

Mr. Mahizhnan will speak about 50 years of Singapore Tamil literature, his experience in digitizing this vast body of work, and the lessons it offers for other prospective digital archival projects in the Tamil diaspora.
