We are celebrating Thai Pongal, the annual Tamil harvest festival with a traditional pure vegetarian feast served on a banana leaf.

Pongal feast 2019 is an initiative by Thamarai to showcase Tamil vegetarian & vegan cuisine in London. For this, we have teamed up with the brand new Malaysian Tamil eatery Gopal’s Corner by Roti King in Victoria, London.

Sugen Gopal’s celebrated restaurant – Roti King in Euston – has been acknowledged as one of London’s ‘greatest cheap eats’ by the likes of Time Out, The Guardian and Eater. At Market Hall Victoria, Sugen pays homage to the restaurant opened by his parents in the 70’s in Malaysia – Gopal’s Corner. Their Malaysian Tamil menu includes their famous flaky, buttery rotis, dosas and their signature banana leaf rice & curry.

For Pongal Feast, Gopal’s Corner will be serving banana leaf rice with 4 vegetable curries, vadai, pongal & kesari for £9.95.

What is Thai Pongal 
Dedicated to the Sun, Thai Pongal is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Tamil people. This year the four-day Tamil harvest festival begins on Tuesday 15th January and ends on the 18th of January. Celebrations will be held in Tamil Nadu in Southern India, Sri Lanka and amongst Tamils worldwide, including those in Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius, South Africa, North America & Europe.
