Yesterday, Feb 6th 2013, was the date when Telugu Cinema completed 81 years in the industry. The very first Telugu movie was "Bhaktha Prahladha" which was released on February 6th 1932 at a budget of 18,000 rupees. The entire movie was shot in 18 days. From then on, we’ve seen a rise in many actors such as NTR, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Nagarjuna, Ravi Teja, Karthik and Arjun to the recent actors like Ram Charan, Siddharth, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, NTR Junior and Ram Charan to name a few. In fact, actor Ajith made his debut in cinema through a Telugu film "Prema Pustakam."
Actresses who have made it big in Tollywood include Shobana, Revathi, Trisha, Priyamani, Anushka, Charmi and Hansika Motwani.
To celebrate 81 years of Tollywood, I thought I’d choose a hit song from the Telugu film "Billa" for this week’s Throwback Thursday. The film is a remake of the Tamil film starring Ajith, but the Telugu version sees some some dramatic changes to the storyline. The film stars Prabhas, Tollywood’s leading hero, who is popularly known as "Rebel Star." Not only is he a top actor, but is a very good dancer too!
Check out the song below, and see if you can recognise which Tamil film used the same tune later on:
