American actress Poorna Jagannathan has landed a role in Criminal Justice, a popular "BAFTA" award winning British Drama produced by the BBC which is now being remade by HBO for the American audiences. The new series is to be filmed in New York where the actress lives.
Her raunchy role in the hit adult comedy film "Delhi Belly" alongside Amir Khan put her on the Bollywood map and she continues her Indian journey with Ayan Mukerji’s “Yeh Jawani Hain Deewani,” where she stars alongside Ranbir Kapoor.
Her South Indian connection traces to Chennai, Tamil Nadu where her parents are from. Poorna has also shown an interest in starring in South Indian films but admits that her Tamil is a little shaky. We’re quite certain a week or two in Chennai will fix that.
Criminal Justice is written by Oscar nominee Richard Price (The Color Of Money) and directed by Oscar-winning writer Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List). Poorna plays Safar Khan in Criminal Justice, a Pakistani woman whose son Naz (Rizwan Ahmed) is accused of murder.
Former Sopranos star James Gandolfini will play Jack Stone a New York Lawyer who trolls NYPD precincts for desperate clients. Others include Bill Camp from Damages and Peyman Moadi from A Separation.
