Nadunisi Naaygal – Gautham Vasudev Menon‘s directorial next is all set for a February 11th release. The movie was recently passed by the censors and was granted an A certificate. Nadunisi Naaygal starring Sameera Reddy and Veera along with four newcomers is touted to be the only real psychological thriller in Tamil cinema since the 1978 Bharathiraja blockbuster ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’ starring Kamal Hassan.
The movie is woven around the antagonist/protagonist Veera and the unraveling of his mind over one fateful night which brings all the characters together. While Nadunisi Naaygal is not a horror film, it is also not meant for the weak-hearted. Those who have seen the movie believe that, inspite of it being experimental not only in terms of content but also film-making, it will be appreciated by audiences of all ages and demographics. Gautham has also been conducting focus screenings and people feel that the subliminal social message that comes across at the end of the movie is worth applauding.
A promotional event shoot for Nadunisi Naaygal was held yesterday at AVM studios. Gautham invited stalwart & critically acclaimed Tamil filmmaker, director Bharathiraja for a special interview. Gautham Menon has said that the first psychological thriller in Tamil cinema ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’ was such a cult hit, that today the movie has become synonymous with the genre itself. The two directors, who share a fantastic rapport, had a great time and were seen laughing on many an occasion. Its good to see directors from different generations share such mutual respect and admiration for each other.
Photon Kathaas’ marketing team have pulled out all the stops to ensure that the promotions of Nadunisi Naaygal stand out, just like for the marketing of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. In a recent event conducted by a popular South Indian channel, Gautham was seen donning the cap of host of a popular show and was joined by the unlikely yet firebrand combination of Simbu and Sameera. All three of them seemed to have had a blast. Considering Gautham’s rapport with them, he seemed to get away with asking them some really difficult questions including getting Simbu to choose his favourite music producer, between A.R. Rahman and Yuvan Shankar Raja! To find out more I guess we will all have to watch out for NN’s promotions that have started in full swing.
