Jaeger-LeCoultre for M.Ratnam

The talented Tamil director Mani Ratnam, had the honour of the Jaeger-LeCoultre – Glory to the Filmmaker Award bestowed upon him at the celebrated Venice Film Festival this week, for his 2010 Hindi blockbuster – Raavan.

With a star-studded cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Tamil actor “Chiyaan” Vikram, incredible cinematography and a phenomenal background score by the one and only A. R. Rahman, Raavan was a huge success internationally.

Upon receiving the award, Mani Ratnam said that he can no longer “be flippant and casual about film-making anymore”. Though, judging by his long line of award-winning films in several Indian languages including Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, it’s hard to believe he ever was flippant or casual about his work! Accompanying him at the event was his wife Suhasini and actor Chiyaan Vikram.

The 67th Venice International Film Festival, organized by La Biennale di Venezia, will run from the 1st to 11th September 2010 at Venice Lido. The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote all the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms. The Thamarai team wish Mani Ratnam the very best and we look forward to more amazing movies.
