Rajinikanth turns 61

The ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth celebrates his 61st birthday today. An icon of Indian cinema, the Thalaivar only has to make a cameo appearance, and a movie is guaranteed to be a hit at the box office. His power stretches far beyond cinema and into the nation’s pride. Rumours say that he was requested to attend the finals of the 2012 Cricket World Cup to bring luck in India’s match against Sri Lanka…India won!

What some like to call the “Rajini Effect,” can also be seen in the recent success of the popular Tamil movie song, “Why This Kolaveri Di”, which has amassed over 35 million views in less than a month on Youtube.com, unprecedented international media coverage and has inspired 31 different versions of the original video! The music producer is Rajinikanth’s nephew, director of the movie is his daughter Aishwarya, and the singer Dhanush is his son-in-law!

We wish Rajinikanth a very happy Birthday and good health for years to come. We share with you this video by a young Japanese man named Taikanth who dreams of becoming the next big Tamil film star. Taikanth, the star of the upcoming movie ‘The Rajini Effect’, has released his own cover of the outrageously popular ‘Kolaveri’ song. When contacted about why he chose to do this cover, the media shy star simply told us that he would like to dedicate this to his Thalaivar, superstar Rajinikanth and he hopes that people around that world will appreciate his homage to the matinee idol.

The Rajini Effect’ is being produced by BarkingMAD Productions, and is scheduled to be released in early 2012. Sources close to the team told us to look out for a chart-busting soundtrack by the super talented Charles Bosco and a special track by the Canada-based SE Boyz.
