Kites US and UK premieres

Bollywood Heartthrob Hrithik Roshan and Mexican beauty Barbara Mori will be joined in UK by fellow cast and crew members of the hugely anticipated international film release, ‘Kites’, for its European Premiere at Odeon West End, Leicester Square on Tuesday 18th May 2010. The stars of one of the most ambitious films to emerge from India will grace the Red Carpet alongside Director Anurag Basu, Producer Rakesh Roshan, Music Director Rajesh Roshan and a host of international A-list celebrities and VIPs.
‘Kites’ centres around two immigrants – one from India and one from Mexico – both navigating life in North America in pursuit of their dreams. Destiny unites them through the most unexpected twist of fate, which culminates in a mortally wounded man being left for dead in the harsh terrain of the Mexican desert. The man is ‘J’ (Hrithik Roshan), but barely recognisable as the once carefree and street-smart trickster that he was. The only thing now keeping him alive is his quest to reclaim the love of his life – ‘Linda’ (Barbara Mori).

The title and story of Kites is the brainchild of Rakesh Roshan, the man behind some of Bollywood’s most creative blockbusters.

“The idea for Kites came to me when I was gazing at the sky and saw two kites flying,” notes Rakesh Roshan. “It looked very romantic. It was very intriguing–the way they came close, played, almost embraced each other and then drew apart. Unaware that someone else was pulling the strings and could cut them loose.  I sat down and penned a story around this idea”.

“Kites is the metaphor of the film. Kites fly against the wind and not with it, stronger the wind blows, higher the kites fly,” adds Anurag Basu who penned the screenplay and directed the film. “Our protagonists in the movie too face obstacles; their love grows deeper with every increasing obstacle.”
Kites is made in two versions, Hindi and English and is a trilingual film (English-Spanish-Hindi). Both will release on 21st May, 2010 across more than 60 countries. Shot in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Santa Fe, Kites is one of the biggest films ever produced in India.

The European Premiere takes place on Tuesday 18th May, Odeon West End, Leicester Square London, two days after the US premiere in New York.
