The promo video for the song "Why This Kolaveri Di" from Dhanush and Shruti Hassan‘s upcoming film "3" was released online earlier this week, and has already amassed an almost cult-like following; social networks are abuzz with references to the song and its Tamil-fied English lyrics. If you haven’t heard it yet, check the video out here.
The song has become so popular, in fact, that it has inspired a few people – "The Kolaveri Gumbal" – to create their own, Carnatic version of the track. Carnatic music is a form of classical Indian music originating from South India and it can be traced back to the age of the Vedas (ancient Hindu scriptures).
Featuring @mohank, @ramaaramesh, @shenoyn, @cornerd, @rahulkicha, and @bandra_girl (all based in Mumbai, India), this version of the song is in the Carnatic Ragam ‘Subhapantuvarali’.
Since its upload (less than a day ago), the track has clocked up a whopping 5500+ plays [at the time of posting this] and has, as they say, ‘gone viral’! Check out this fabulous interpretation of the "soup song" below:
