DreamWorks Animation has hired A. R. Rahman to compose music for their Bollywood musical (tentitavely) titled "Monkeys of Bollywood". Inspired by the Hindu epic "The Ramayana", the project is DreamWorks Animation’s first musical CG-animated feature. The film will tell the story from the point of view of two monkeys, and will be modernised – set in the Mumbai of today.
Stephen Schwartz, a composer/lyricist who has worked on the likes of Broadway smash-hit Wicked, and Disney films such as Enchanted and Pocahontas is also part of the venture, as is Paul Berges and his wife Gurinder Chadha who brought us Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice.
The Chief Creative Officer of DreamWorks, a company that brought us Shrek and Madagascar, has said that we can expect “a movie that is full of magic, fantasy, adventure, comedy and emotion in which inspiring songs and dances will delight audiences everywhere."
