The Spirit of Music was released yesterday in Mumbai. The book is a series of conversations between Nasreen Munni Kabir and the Maestro of Madras – A R Rahman. Unveiling the book was renowned film director Mani Ratnam, who is not only a fan of AR Rahman but an admirer the person. Rahman got his break with Mani Ratnam’s 1991 film ‘Roja’ which took him from composing music for TV commercials to being a twin Oscar winner celebrated across the globe.
At the launch Rahman spoke about the trials & tribulations of his life. He said,“One such moment that I remember is when I had bought a studio. I had no money to buy any equipments. That time, my mother asked me what I needed now. I told her I required Rs. 4 lakh to buy the equipments. So she sold some my sister’s jewellery.”
