Sasi the Don, one of Malaysia’s favourite stars is down in London for a special collaboration. He is currently in the studio with UK Reggae star Maxi Priest working on a track titled ”Island Queen” with Tippa Irie. Maxi Priest, a close friend of Sasi’s has several hits under his belt including the 90s anthem ‘Close to you’ which reached No.1 in the US and No.7 in the UK.
UK audiences were introduced to Sasi when in 2010 he hit London for the Urban Koothu Malaysia Special to celebrate the Malaysian Independence day. The event showcased UK Tamil artists alongside the Malaysian Tamil collective including Dr Sakthi, Balan Kashmir & Dj Biggie. Joining him on stage was UK Reggae artist Apache Indian performing their collaboration Hold up. Click here to view the event photos
With several hits in Malaysia, Sasi’s new single will be featured on his upcoming album titled ”International Gateway” which is expected to hit stores in Summer 2011. He recently announced to his fans on facebook & twitter his signing to Virgin Music India…a first for any Malaysian artiste. There is a lot of anticipation for this new album as his previous was released back in 2006. Thamarai.com was given an exclusive when they were invited to Malaysia to witness Jaclyn Victor (Malaysian Idol winner) in the studio with Sasi for her first even Tamil song. Let’s just say it’s going to be a big track!
We wish Sasi, Gerard his close friend & advisor and Navin his producer a very enjoyable stay in London. Have a great time at the Damien Marley & Naz concert, and we look forward to the release of the album!
