Track of the Week #14 – January Mazhaiyil

"Hi Da" is a new Tamil film, written and directed by South Indian TV personality Brinda Das. The film marks the debut of a Ashwin and Jaqlene, and also stars John Vijay (Oram Po, Va Quarter Cutting, and Samar) in an important role. The music has been composed by Vishal Chandrashekhar who is also working on the music for director Santosh Sivan’s "Ceylon".

We think that "January Mazhaiyil" (meaning "In the January rain") is the perfect track for this week, seeing as it’s pouring with rain in the UK where Thamarai HQ is located! The song has been sung by Naresh Iyer, Vijay Yesudas, Sowmya Mahadevan and Ramya NSK.

The track is a mellow, melodious number that is sure to be stuck in your head once you’ve heard it a couple of times. The lyrics by Charukesh Sekar are rendered perfectly by all of the vocalists, and the instrumental interludes are beautiful!
